I don't know how many of you watched the Oscars last night, but I'll post some of my thoughts just the same.
First of all, let me say that Jason and I haven't felt the same about the Oscars the past few years (maybe even longer for Jason). By that I mean, they are not what they used to be. In one way, they don't really seem to mean much anymore and I think part of the reason is because the nominees are sometimes very unexpected. It's like, they just pick and choose, and there's not a lot of thought and careful (or even realistic) decision put into it. Also, things of the world have continued to make it's way to the Oscars, which is disappointing to see (why can't they keep things to themselves, especially at an event like this?), and it makes me wonder how it will be years from now. However, I won't be getting into that today.
With that said, we decided to let it get a jump-start in recording and began watching it at 7pm. That way, we could skip through any speeches we didn't care to see and of course, all the commercials.
Hugh Jackman was a perfect host, probably one of the best I have seen on the Oscars. Good choice! I also loved the entertainment aspect of the show, it was very different and lively and it really captured my attention. All the props were really interesting and made the award-giving more exciting. It was definitely more artsy this year. The way they presented the awards for the Actors and Actresses by choosing five people who were previous winners was really different, and I think it made it a lot more meaningful.
I'm so happy that
Wall-E won for Best Animated Film, and of course, for Heath Ledger for Best Supporting Actor. I think it was a very good thing they did in letting his family members accept his award.
Kate Winslet was adorable giving her speech, but she did go way too long.
What was with that one guy who took his Oscar and balanced it on his chin? I can't remember who he was, or what he won for. I don't care if you're pro at tricks and crap, that just seemed wrong. Anyone can make a mistake, and that would've been awful.
I can't seem to take this
Slumdog Millionaire stuff seriously, but whatever.
Ben Stiller making fun of Joaquin Phoenix from his appearance on Letterman was not cool.
Benjamin Button for Visual Effects? I think not. Make-Up, of course, but
The Dark Knight or
Iron Man should've taken it. I haven't seen
Benjamin Button but that just doesn't make sense.
The fashion this year was some of the worst I've seen. I think the dresses of every single previous winner of the award for Best Supporting Actress were completely awful (if I remember correctly). Overall, there were some fine choices, but most of them were hideous!
( The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly )That's all, folks!
